The Sylmasta Epoxy Composite Repair Kit contains enough E190 Brushable Epoxy Resin and Fibreglass Tape to make multiple, versatile, composite patch repairs to pipes and tanks of all materials.
An Epoxy Composite Kit provides an alternative repair method to the SylWrap range of repair wraps. E190 Brushable Epoxy and Fibreglass Tape when used in conjunction with each other repair complex shapes such as around joints and inaccessible pipework where a normal pipe repair bandage cannot be applied effectively.
E190 Brushable Epoxy repairs areas of damage caused by pitting, strengthens existing pipes, and protects against corrosion and chemical attack. It is temperature resistant to 100°C and has a work time of 30 minutes, allowing application to large areas without the prospect of premature curing. The open weave of Sylmasta Fibreglass Tape allows the epoxy resin to easily saturate the fabric.
Each kit contains 3 x Standard Epoxy 19000; 1 x Sylmasta Fibreglass Tape 100mmx50m; 3 x brushes; 3 x stirrers; 3 x pair of gloves; and 3 x mixing cups. This quantity of products allows it to be used for either multiple applications or one big patch repair.
How to patch repair a pipe or tank using a Sylmasta Epoxy Composite Repair Kit
Surfaces must undergo a degree of preparation before an epoxy composite repair. Pipework should be free of paint, rust and grime before being roughened via either grit blasting or grinding with a coarse wheel or abrasive disk pad. Full instructions on the preparation process are available on the E190 Brushable Technical Data Sheet and are provided with the product.
Part A and Part B of Sylmasta E190 Brushable Epoxy are mixed at the ratio specified on the tub and stirred well for up to 5 minutes until both parts are thoroughly mixed and streak free. The epoxy resin is then brushed applied to the surface requiring repair.
A layer of Fibreglass Tape is then wrapped around the epoxy and another coating of E190 added on top of the Tape. The application should continue in this way with each coating of E190 being covered with Fibreglass Tape until the repair is complete. It is finished with one final layer of E190.
For applications where there is not enough room to wrap Fibreglass Tape, such as in confined spaces, around joints and fittings, or for the repair of tanks, strips of Tape can be cut off and pressed into the E190 rather than being wound around the epoxy. E190 can also be used to coat the Tape which, once soaked, is then applied to the pipe.
E190 Brushable Epoxy has a work time of 30 minutes and a hard dry of 16 hours. A full cure is achieved in 24 hours, although exact timings are dependent upon the thickness of the application and temperature.
Should you require a specialist epoxy resin in place of E190, for example where very high chemical or temperature resistance is required, then please contact Sylmasta whose technicians can produce custom-made variations specifically formulated for your application.
